About this strain

Chaga is a remarkable fungus that grows on birch. Instead of a typical fruiting body it forms a sterile growth on the trunk, with a cracked, charcoal-black surface and a rusty-brown, corky interior. Dried and ground, it has been used for infusions in northern countries for centuries.

Growing it takes patience: living birches are inoculated with plug spawn, ideally at small wounds in the bark. The first growth usually appears only after several years and then grows slowly for many years.

Harvest

The growth usually appears approx. 3–10 years after the tree is infected. Part of it is harvested, leaving the rest to keep growing.

Please note: these growing parameters bring together the experience of practising growers — a starting point, not a guarantee of results. Every grow has its own substrate, climate and equipment, and even small differences can noticeably change the yield. Adjust these values to your own conditions.
