About this strain
The giant puffball forms some of the largest fruiting bodies of any fungus — white, round and smooth, usually the size of a football and sometimes much bigger. Only young specimens are edible, uniformly white and firm inside like fresh cheese; sliced and fried in breadcrumbs they taste delicate, a little like a cutlet. Once the flesh starts to turn yellow or brown, it is no longer fit to eat.
It is a meadow fungus — not grown indoors. The spawn is used to inoculate rich, humus-rich soil in a meadow, an orchard or at the edge of a garden; mushrooms appear irregularly in summer and early autumn, often only in later seasons.
