About this strain
Phlebiopsis gigantea is a useful fungus, not an edible one. Its main benefit is speeding up the breakdown of old stumps and roots left after felling — the mycelium gradually decomposes the wood, so stumps soften and fall apart over time, without grubbing out or chemicals.
It also protects fresh conifer stumps against Heterobasidion root rot, a serious parasite of pines and spruces: it colonises the wood faster than the pathogen and leaves it no room. The mycelium is introduced into the stump with plugs or applied to the fresh cut surface, ideally right after felling.
How to grow it
Preparation
- Substrate
- stumps and roots left after felling, especially conifers (pine, spruce) — ideally fresh
Please note: these growing parameters bring together the experience of practising growers — a starting point, not a guarantee of results. Every grow has its own substrate, climate and equipment, and even small differences can noticeably change the yield. Adjust these values to your own conditions.
