About this strain

The yellow morel is one of the most prized mushrooms in the world — a spring delicacy with a distinctive spongy, honeycombed cap ranging from creamy yellow to light brown, hollow inside. It has an intense, nutty, earthy aroma that drying makes even stronger. Eat it only thoroughly cooked — it is poisonous raw. Morels are protected in Poland, so growing them is the only way to enjoy them legally in the kitchen.

It is grown outdoors on prepared beds: the mycelium forms sclerotia that overwinter in the soil, and the mushrooms appear in spring, after a cold period, with cool nights and high humidity. It is a demanding crop and not always predictable.

How to grow it

Preparation

Substrate
prepared soil beds; in the garden a mix of peat, sawdust, wood ash and gypsum; in commercial growing also nutrient bags laid on the beds

Harvest

Mushrooms in spring, usually March to May, at soil temperatures of approx. 10–18°C.

Please note: these growing parameters bring together the experience of practising growers — a starting point, not a guarantee of results. Every grow has its own substrate, climate and equipment, and even small differences can noticeably change the yield. Adjust these values to your own conditions.
